Prepping

Not much tonight beyond putting together a picketing plan. We also had something weird happen — a sighting from Friday came through on Monday afternoon. Sometimes technology is not so helpful — the voice mail took days to appear. But I’m not complaining about two sightings in a three day period!

The good news is that the Friday sighting makes sense with regard to the other sightings that have come in. The bad news is Mari’s back to covering some pretty big distances every few days. She’s still sticking to the Fells, but the area’s too big for us to figure out a pattern yet.

We also don’t know whether she still has her collar. Basically in the last sighting, the unusual thing that they noticed was that she was on her own, and then they saw a lost dog poster and called her in. The Friday sighting wasn’t as close — but it was also of an unaccompanied copper colored dog, right size & coloring, not a fox or coyote.

Hmm. This whole “Marisol, stay” command doesn’t seem to be working, and reverse psychology doesn’t work on her, either. She’s a good girl and knows right from wrong (she’d crate herself for misbehaving) but she’s an independent thinker and problem solver. Like when we gave her one of those plastic puzzle toys with treats hidden inside — she was supposed to work it open with her paws. She gnawed it open. Couldn’t trap treats in there ever again. Same with those stuffed creatures inside of a stuffed home. We got her a little stuffed house with three squeaker birds. She worked the birds out. I stuck them back in. She worked them out again. I stuck them back in. She ripped the house open so the birds would never be trapped inside again. Hard to imagine a creature so small and innocent-looking could be so nefurious. Does this look like a criminal mastermind?

Naptime!

Criminally cute, perhaps.

muahahah! She’ll figure everything out! A puppy that smart is a tough little mofo, and when she finds you, she’ll be happy to have you take care of her needs. She’ll be back.

“Nefurious” – I love it! These sightings have our spirits up too. C’mon home, Mari!

    Wonderful post, Anindita!

More we know about your Marisol now! Definitely a woofy with a determined mind and spirit!

Can’t make the picketing tonight (getting taxes done, oh my!) but I wish I could!

I’m so happy that she’s doing whatever it takes to survive until she can be reunited with her humans. Besides thinking about her every morning while walking my dogs and envisioning her safe and sound, I’ve incorporated her into my password so I can think positive thoughts about Marisol throughout the day. Love the stories & the photos!

Well, Marisol. You are a smart one, aren’t you! I am thrilled people are getting glimpses of your little furry self roaming the Fells. I just wish you would turn into robo-dog and repeat a trackable pattern so your mommy and daddy can execute on their plan to rescue you. We are all praying for your continued safety. Hope you are finding some tasty morsels and keeping a little bit of weight on that little foxy frame. I wish I could help with picketing, but my husband works later in evenings and I doubt my little toddler could stay put on a street corner. :)

Someone came to the door of my grooming shop (which sits on a very busy road) with their dog off-leash. The dog suddenly bolted. It took over an hour for her to be caught (thanks to my business partner and passersby). This dog had a familiar person at her side, but her fear of an unfamiliar setting won over and she crossed a dangerous road repeatedly and traveled about 2 miles total before she was finally caught. I was surprised that little 10 or 15lb dog made it so far so quickly, especially when she had a person she knew and trusted at her side. I thought about Mari and the state of mind a dog must be in when “on the run”. If this little dog could make it so far, I can only imagine the distance Marisol could clear, which only makes pin pointing her location seem that much more difficult.
I hope she makes it home soon. It breaks my heart that she’s still lost out there and just doesn’t know how to come home. Luckily she’s a crafty little dog who can fend for herself in the meantime.

Great news on the sighting!!! this may be a long shot but Craigslist has a listing for “found small breed dog @ Somerville animal control. No other description unfortunately. Not sure what they consider “small breed” but it might be worth a call. (I listed it on the Marisol Outreach spreadsheet as well) http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/pet/2318767754.html

Do you have a topographical map of the Fells? That might make more sense of her movements.
