Mama + baby raccoons
Amazing photos Anindita – the raccoon family is so cute. Wouldn’t mind running into them in the woods but not the previous two critters. Hoping Marisol will show up soon. Will be doing a short hike anyway in the Fells this afternoon and will be watching for Mari although she’s probably too smart to be out in the rain.
Fisher night, coyote night, raccoon night. I HOPE tonight is dog night! Mari…come out…
Wow, such cool photos…Come on Marisol!!
Love the wildlife pictures – want one of Mari now! Just a word of encouragement – I live in a rural setting about an hour away from you . . lots of wildlife too and I’ve been tracking a stray cat for a nice lady down the street for a year. Despite this long winter and all of this wild life he is still going strong. It was three weeks since I saw him last and then boom – one sunny day last week, he appeared. I’m hoping he will return to his regular schedule now that the snow banks are down. Also – a woman on craiglist lost her cat last fall and was just reunited with him after a call pointed her in the right direction. Spring is a time for renewal, new hope, and most importantly – sunshine! I know these are cat stories and Mari is a dog but that gives me even more hope that she is smarter, stronger, and more likely to make her way back to you . . .I’m sending warm thoughts and prayers your way that Mari is the next successful animal reunion to occur!
Marisol find that camera!!!you know you like your photo taken!!!!
The raccoon family is posing! ; )
Did others see this posting of a potentially lost dog on Craigslist lost & found from this past Sat? I wonder if this could be the other lost dog Anindita referred to … Hopefully he was just roaming away from his person and he has been reunited.
I thought about Marisol during this (relatively) mild period of weather. Here’s hoping she visits the comfort station one of these days …
Here’s the Craigslist posting. It’s so detailed, it sounds like a Marisol follower may have written it:

My dog and I came across a dog with no owner in sight on the Skyline Trail in the Fells this morning around 10am. I believe I have seen this dog before in the same area with a female owner and possibly another dog, but we waited a few minutes and the owner was not in sight. The dog appears to be a neutered male, friendly with other dogs, prone to running big circuits in the woods. He had a large, loud bell on his collar. He looks about 50+ lbs, slender, black and tan (shepherd mix look). He would not approach my hand when I held out treats.
We were in the area of Gerry Hill at the bottom of a hill, at a crossing with a larger path. The dog was after a chipmunk in a log, but he stopped hunting and ran around with my dog for a few minutes. When my dog and I continued up the Skyline trail toward the Sheepfold, he followed us a short ways, then ran back and forth to us a few times. I thought I might encounter the owner on the way to the Sheepfold but I never saw anyone. I did not encounter this dog on the hike back.
I assume this dog has a habit of roaming since he has the loud bell, so maybe he knew how to find his way back, but it made me nervous not to see the owner. Hope they were reunited.
